Mazda Strut Bar
The Mazda strut bar or sometimes called the strut brace is part of the vehicle’s
suspension system which is specifically used in conjunction with MacPherson struts
on a unibody chassis in order to provide additional support between the strut
towers. Its prime function is to tie these two opposing strut towers together
to come as a single unit. The goal is to reduce the strut tower’s flex during
hard cornering. This way a rigid support is given to the towers, ensuring always
their top working condition. Together with all other suspension members, they
all perform to maintain a smooth and adaptive movement between the wheels and
the road surface, providing an improved handling, ride quality, and stable mobility.
In a MacPherson strut suspension system, the spring and shock absorber are unified
in a single suspension unit. The whole vertical suspension load is transferred
to the top of the vehicle’s strut tower. For a double wishbone suspension, the
spring and shock absorber shares the load separately. Both provide full support
over the strut tower, freeing them from flexing and allowing the applied pressure
to be distributed evenly on both towers instead of just one. Normally, as your
vehicle is turned, the strut towers are most likely to flex and without having
the Mazda strut bars, the wheels can lose its firm traction with the road’s surface.
Generally, the Mazda strut bar equipped in the unibody chassis is a reinforced
part of the inner wheel well and is not directly coupled to the main chassis
rails. This means that, there is a normal flex within the strut towers in relation
to the chassis rails. During cornering, the strut bar transfers the load of each
strut tower through tension and compression, providing the load to be divided
on both towers which greatly reduces chassis flex. Because the strut bar provides
rigidity into the chassis, understeering is minimized, uneven tire wear is prevented
and excessive metal wear in the strut tower area are greatly reduced. Equipping
this Mazda strut bars in your vehicle’s suspension is the best way of keeping
it stable and solid.
Have your Mazda strut bars routinely checked in conjunction with a wheel alignment.
This is needed in order to always benefit from optimal steering ability, handling,
and solid roads traction. Worn out strut bars should be replaced at once to avoid
further defects to be incurred into the chassis and to avoid irregularities in
the entire suspension system. If you have any doubts on your strut bar’s condition,
you can have it checked thoroughly by a qualified service technician for full
diagnosis.
Mazda auto parts introduce a full line of Mazda strut bar that directly replaces
original equipment strut bars. These are constructed from solid and high-grade
materials such as billet aluminum specifically made as lighter weight bars for
maximum virtual body flex elimination. With this strut bars geared in your vehicle,
you will get top notch performance especially in hard cornering.
