Mazda Valve Cover
The Mazda valve cover is the rigid metal cover that sits on top of the cylinder
head to provide a leak-free and firm cover on the valvetrain. As the name implies
it allows protection for the engine, keeping it away from oil spills. Oil spills
can usually occur in the engine system and may be caused by several factors and
one is from a defective valve cover. There are two types of oil-spills: a seep
and a leak. A seep is the gradual seepage of oil that does not cause a drip while
a leak can cause a drip of oil as the vehicle is at rest or parked. It can create
a puddle of oil on the roadway and continues to drip even when the vehicle is
driven. A seep do not usually incur serious damage to the engine but a leak, if
not caught up early can result to grave engine damage since oil can be drained
out, causing lack of lubrication and cooling to the internal engine.
It is common for leaks to eventually surface in the Mazda valve covers at about
every 30,000 miles that the vehicle has traveled. Although it is the device employed
to provide protection to the valvetrain and rocker arms located on top of the
engine, most commonly it is the source of leaks. And this may be a result due
to its constant pressure to heat and its normal deterioration as its ages. Corrosion,
warping, and damage on the valve cover are just the prime causes of valve cover
inefficiency. But this can be evaded if proper preventive maintenances are followed.
Oil is continuously circulated throughout the engine system via the oil pump
and several oil passages. When it is pumped through the pushrods and distributed
underneath the Mazda valve cover, an efficient lubrication for the rocker arm
is given. There are several machined holes located in the engine head, allowing
the oil to be recirculated back down into the oil pan, which is the device that
carries all the oil supply. Because the valve cover plays a significant role in
the engine system, it must ensure its oil-tight hold to leave no chance for leaks
to occur.
Because of the oil-leaking problems, you will need an efficient and durable valve
cover gasket that will come along with your Mazda valve covers. This is a simple
gasket that tightly seals the connection points in the valve cover. Therefore,
leaks of oil, coolant, and all other particulates are restricted in the cylinder
head and the engine. Over time, leaks may develop on the valve cover and the gasket
so when this happens, a replacement will necessitate.
The Mazda valve cover is made from highly durable materials with high resistant
to extreme pressures and will perform at its peak under extremely rough conditions.
